Lap of Honour

Last night we continued our good relations with the Tigers, despite embarrassing their boys at the quiz, we were invited onto the pitch at half time during the match vs Saracens to promote Varsity (20th March, tickets available soon!)

Eb the celeb, born performer, he's used to this.

Along with various junior rugby teams, a few women and some Canadians we all got our chance with the tiger. In a few weeks he'll be replaced by the Varsity Trophy!
He's a tigerr, a leicester tiger! And so's the bloke in the suit.

Back Three Challenge

Calza Boi and Dobbo vs Barry and Wilson in the back-three-round-the-pole-chin-a-beer-tackle-a-bag challenge. Very tight finish to this one, you decide who has one, we can't split them...

Late equaliser clouds bright Still Binned FC performance against Geography

Georgraphy 'A' 3 - 3 Still Binned FC

This Sunday saw the return of Still Binned FC, the Rugby clubs attempt at the game with the round ball. After a rocky start conceding direct from a corner and a catastrophic own goal the dormant Still Binned FC went into the break 2-1 down. The second half erupted with flowing football and Geography were sent back to the drawing board (a place they know well) as Still Binned FC turned the game on its head with 2 classy goals from impact sub (and second team prop/winger) Sam Daniels and his best friend at uni Ben Westhead. With victory in our grasps three points evaporated as Geography scored with the last kick of the game, with what is known as a Gobbler - a devastating blow.

Man of the match - William Wildsword
Dick of the Day - Callum Howard, who forgot his boots and realised he was too ill to play but managed to Ref for £5.

The 2013 Varsity poster is out!

Hot of the presses the 2013 Varsity poster has been released! Look who made the photo...is it an omen...?

Tigers Pub Quiz

Last Tuesday we were invited to the Leicester Tigers Pub Quiz, with over 400 people in attendance as well as a table of current Tigers players led by defending champion Jordan Crane,  it was great opportunity to promote Varsity and test ourselves against the brightest minds the East Midlands had to offer.

At the halfway stage we had the chance to build up some support for the big day March 20th.
Team University Challenged (plus Uncle Tony)

A successful evening saw the boys finish 4th out of 47, not bad for a bunch of scumbag students.

Below is a link to an Interview we managed to wrangle out ofEngland Saxon and Leicester Tigers legend Ed Slater. Find out who he will be supporting at varsity.....

2's v Notts Trent

On yet another breezy wednesday the super two's took to the field to play Notts Trent. Even with the two biggest props in midlands 2A, Trent couldn't handle the speed and skill of the 2's, who's offloading game was comparable to the All Blacks at times. After travelling to the game in style, on the Notts County team bus equipped with sky and a kitchen, this was carried out onto the pitch and tries from Barry, Bobby, Fat Cam, Westhead, Dimmick, Swagger and James Mathews helped seal a 39-19 victory. On the return journey we did a little quiz with the pick of the rounds being Bobby against Emmanuel:

Sam would like to thank everyone for making his birthday such a great event and he really enjoyed himself:

Cribs

The  night before three big away games we visited the historic rugby house to see if the current tenants were looking after her.....there were mixed results

Training Challenge: Front Row

Welcome one and all, this weeks training position challenge was a kicking competition for the big boys in the front row. Missing the FRU's answer to Dan Carter (Sam Daniels) who would prevail in tough conditions:

Well done to the unlikely winner Ben Shove who came through in the final to beat Phillip Mills.

6 Custard Creme Challenge

Stuck in traffic on the way home a few of the freshers couldn't contain their competitive nature...and their greed.

The 6 Custard Creme Challenge

Leicester blown away at windy Brum

Birmingham 2nds 24 vs 8 ULRFC 2nds

In our first match back from an extended christmas break we played a strong Birmingham outfit in the last sixteen of the BUCS Midlands Cup. In difficult windy conditions there were plenty of positives to take from an encouraging second half display. Calum Howard was Leicester's siole try scorer, his touch-down capped an unremarkable display from the ageing full back. There were impressive performances from Sebastian Goodhew, James Mathews and Aaron Dimmick who dominated in the loose but in the end the result was a disappointment. Although the seconds will have had hopes of progressing much further in the cup, in what will be a congested end to the season, more time to focus on their league challenge will be welcomed.

Next wednesday all teams will be recommencing league competiton as the road to varsity continues...

DAY 8-  Conditioning and Training.

The programme today was interval training on the exercise bike. Sweaty cycling with little rest. The drill was 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 second reps done 8 times each with a small rest period in between each rep. Due to the adverse weather conditions, training was held indoors with head coach Richard 'The Neck' Mee -  games included: a low quality game of five-a-side football; dodgeball; and, finished with a game of what can only be described as 'no-holds-barred' basketball. The game produced a few standout moments - Ed Haynes throwing up a magical buzzer beater from the half court line and A-Ron 'Dynamite' Dimmick winning the free throw contest afterwards.

Versaclimber Challenge:

Todays contestants were former captain James Perrins, Coach Richard Mee and George Newnham. Todays challenge was slightly easier as the machine setting was on an easier level, however there was one exceptional performer and the first man over 100, watch below to find out who:

George's video was cut short however he finished with 101 I believe which is a new CLUB RECORD

Two previous versaclimber contestants who aimed to beat JP's original record were Brian Robinson and Dib Dab Dob Dob Dobbins:

Well done to the boys George got 78 and Brian 87

York Street Darts

It hasn't all been Rugby nonsense. Last night during our down time one of the biggest darts tournaments outside of the PDC was held in the kitchen of our flat. With John Smiths flowing freely it was only a matter of time before 'The Goat' 'The Icon' 'Money' 'The Reem-Cat' and 'Pin-point' took things too far......
Delighted - The proud victor
A couple of clips from the final...

Well that was fun.
DAY FOUR- CIRCUITS
A sweaty session marred by poor attendance. Well done to Kieran, Thomas, Aled, Benjamin and George who managed to turn up and get the best out of themselves. This will be noted as the battle for varsity places hots up.
